The Indian River Lagoon, located of the East Coast of Florida is about 90 miles long and 5 miles wide at its widest point. It is a very shallow area of brackish water which is ideal habitat for lots of different species of fish, crabs, wildlife and birds. The Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is located near the north end, and near the south end is Pelican Island National Refuge.

Redfish, sea trout, pompano, snook, ladyfish, baby tarpon, jacks, flounder, and bluefish all live here to feed on the many kinds of bait fish and crustaceans. Sebastian Inlet and the Sebastian River are also near the south end of the lagoon system. On calm days we can get out into the ocean and fish the beach for jacks, pompano and spanish mackerel and on windy days we can fish Sebastian river for snook, lady fish and large jacks. Often you can get a shot at rolling Tarpon during the winter months.

The water in the Lagoon System is often very clear which allows for some great sight fishing for redfish (sometimes called red drum) with both light spinning gear and fly rods.
